Although nobody in this country dresses up in scary costumes on Halloween and instead everyone is coming to graveyards to lit candles on their family graves, I thought that getting some treats would be nice anyway ;-)

I'm always impressed to hear that a friend of mine is having a book published that they have written or translated. I recently bought and am currently reading a book of Japanese folk fairy tales and legends that have been selected and translated by a dear friend of mine, [info]kilmoon.

Well done! I got one of the fairy tales already a couple of years ago with hand drawn illustrations and bound in red covers. Definitely one of the most original presents I've been given :-)

What was the most memorable concert you ever attended? What made it so magical?

In Prague 5 years ago. The best show I have ever seen! From the first row.

Is there anything better?

My summer trip to Prague has been tentatively scheduled for the first weekend in August (depends if my friend is free, but it looks she should be).

As both my friend & me like doing sightseeing, we will surely visit some nice and interesting places. A few suggestions have already been made, nothing definite planned yet. However, there are many good choices in the city and I know that no matter where we go, I will be impressed enough.

While thinking about it, I realized that I have never been to the amazing 16th century Star Summer Palace while I lived in Prague. How odd! The palace is located a bit farther from the centre, so I must have forgotten about it. Even though once I walked somewhere nearer the place and spotted it hiding among the trees on top of the hill.

Definitely a must-see on my trip! Read below how very cool it is:

"From the plans it follows that the Archduke Ferdinand of Tyrol based the design of the building on the ground plan of the so-called Star of Solomon, the magic image of two intersecting equilateral triangles. In its totality the image expressed the perfect coupling of the four elements. Undoubtedly, the building was an expression of both a Hermetically conceived analogy, in which an element (star) represents the whole (cosmos), and a syncretism interconnecting individual branches of traditional sciences, such as astrology and alchemy, with the mythological concepts of the ideas of the pantheon of the Antiquity."

--
“The Star's three aboveground levels and the one in the underground can he understood as an echo of the four traditional elements of the ancient laboratories—as is already expressed by the ground plan itself. The element of the Earth (¥) corresponds to the underground labyrinth; the motifs belonging to the element of Water (V) are preponderant in the changeable and multifaceted decorations of the ground floor; the second floor is dedicated to Air (A); and, finally, the large hall of the third floor, over the ceiling of which towers the pyramids spire of the roof, corresponds to Fire (A). Individual levels in the building also represent the group of four characteristic phases, through which the spiritualizing matter gradually passes in the course of the Opus Magnum. Accordingly, black goes with the underground, as it is the place of the initiation and symbolical death. On the ground floor, the alabaster stucco directly insinuates the state of the so-called albedo, the attainment of the Philosophers' ''white stone.” No records concerning the original colours of the other two floors have survived. However, according to traditional symbolism, lemon yellow would correspond to the second floor, and the purple of royal power, the colour of the Philosophers' Stone, or the prevailing red on the original tiles of the hall (rubedo) would correspond to the unpartitioned third floor."

Here's a couple of interior shots of the ground floor.

More details on this unique and remarkable piece of architecture can me found here.

On Czech TV currently, there's this extraordinarily impressive commercial for Mattoni mineral water. I thought I'd share it, because it is really good.
Warning: features a very sexy Czech top model wearing nothing but a water dress.

In fact, I think it's rather stunning.

I think I haven't mentioned my ambition to learn to play the piano (I can already play the violin well and guitar a bit). I'd be very good at it :-)

So WHO is going with me? [info]acidofil, [info]kilmoon perhaps? I will try to get a ticket for the premiere on the weekend.
Oh, and the party should be great!

Since [info]locke_fox has asked...
List 7 songs that you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words of even if they're not any good but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in you LJ along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to in absolute random order.

1. Goldfrapp – Road To Somewhere
2. Colony 5 – Ghosts
3. Spetsnaz – Allegiance
4. Inure – Neverending
5. The Crystal Method – High & Low
6. Blaqk Audio – Stiff Kittens (Assemblage 23 rmx)
7. Goldfrapp – Little Bird

I'm not tagging people however. Whoever wants to do this can do so in a comment :-)

Bauhaus have recorded their first album in 25 years and on March 10th 2008, the band will release the record through their new home at Cooking Vinyl.

Go Away White was recorded in just 18 days at Zircon Skye in Ojai with singer Peter Murphy, bassist Daniel J, guitarist Daniel Ash and drummer Kevin Haskins playing together as a band in one room, taking first takes as final cuts.

Speaking of the album, Cooking Vinyl say: "The 10 songs on Go Away White channel the kind of magic timelessness you could imagine on a mighty bill with Joy Division, Bowie, Devo, The Creatures, Antony, My Bloody Valentine and Kraftwerk – with Oscar Wilde playing master of ceremonies."

The last Bauhaus album was 1983's Burning From The Inside.

Oh, is there anyone who likes this song as very much as me?
(People living in CR will surely know it from a TV advert).

I absolutely love it! And the video fits to its atmosphere nicely I think. I have just watched it 3 times in a row.

It was played today at H&M while I was trying on the skirt in the fitting room. And for a moment I was more impressed by the music then the piece of clothing.

Does anyone know this Norwegian band at all? I have to explore their website and might see if I like the whole album "The Understanding", although as I read on the net it's not really great...

The perfect couple )

We just had a nice date in snow-covered mountains, but all pictures of us from up there are private ;-)

Edit: I think I got it now. He might well be Keanu Reeves disguised as Mesmer :-D
It all makes sense to me then :-)

NIN
On Monday night I saw Nine Inch Nails along with my brother and 5000 other people who were screaming and singing throughout the whole show. Unbelievable. Where they all came from I wonder?

Well, I was coming round from the gig all day yesterday. There was so much energy flowing from the stage from the very first minute they started playing, so much power in the music, lots of shoving in the crowd that went absolutely mad... We stood no farther than 10 metres away from the stage and we just had to dance, because everyone around did.
Trent's performance was totally amazing; you wouldn't say he is doing the same 2-hour show almost every night when the band is on tour at the moment.

I have to say I don't much like most of the stuff they released after "The Downward Spiral", I think their latest album is really bad and their music has lost much of its originality and distinctiveness. The first record will always be my most favourite one and I think it is one of the best electro records ever made. Seriously. I still have the videos to "Head Like A Hole" and "Down In It" recorded on a video tape from MTV somewhere. I'd so much like to hear "Pretty Hate Machine" in surround sound sometime. It would sound just fantastic!

Ah.

Pictures, video and the setlist )

Oh, and Trent said that we were the best fans of the whole tour so far and that the band would come back soon! The Czech fans win! Yay! :-)
